Fluids, particles and CFD
This course gives more basic and some advanced knowledge on fluid mechanics, ranging from fluid flows to multi-phase flows and powders, also including mechanical separations. Important topics of the course are momentum balances, the Navier-Stokes equations, numerical computation of flow fields, introduction to turbulence models and multi-phase flows. The final part of the course is devoted to CFD modeling using a software. The course consists of lectures, exercises, and seminar presentations by invited lecturers.
The aim of the course is to give the participants a deeper knowledge of the theory of fluid mechanics and introduces to the use of (commercial) software. The student will extend on basic knowledge on simple fluids and be introduced to technical applications of the mechanics of compressible and non-compressible fluids, multi-phase flows and powders, and finally computational fluid dynamics (CFD).
The course is in particular intended for postgraduate students who are familiar with the elements of engineering fluid dynamics but feel that they need deeper theoretical insight to be able to enter the field of computational fluid dynamics (CFD).
