5G Hack the Mall

Persons without a valid study right to a Finnish university or univeristy of applied sciences have preference to this course.
Participate in Aalto University’s 5G Hack the Mall summer course and search for recipes for success in 5G services together with top companies, lecturers and mentors!
5G Hack the Mall (6 ECTS) is an open for all facilitated online course where students learn the basics of 5G and its use cases, and develop ideas for 5G services together with leading companies.
The course is aimed at university and high school students, regardless of field of study. Company staff are also welcome to attend the course. 5G technology will offer new training and career opportunities. In this course, you will learn the basics of 5G technology and work with your team to develop ways to leverage 5G technology in companies and other organizations. Experienced mentors are guiding project works.
The course consists of online lectures, as well as online project work in groups on challenges given by companies and other organizations. Guest lecturers are from Nokia Bell Labs and Ericsson.
Students will learn
- the basics of 5G and its use cases including basic principles in 5G
- the current state of 5G markets
- mobile communications system and mobile networks
- radio access
- 5G and AI and cyber security
- main verticals for example IoT, XR and autonomous cars
- the foundations of 6G
Additionally, the course aims to promote communications and group work, with students realising and reporting teamwork projects within the scopes of 5G use case areas, ranging from visionary studies to building of practical demonstration prototypes. The groups mix students from different backgrounds according to separate instructions. At the end of the course the groups document and present their project results.
Project work and learning diary.
The course is organised online. The topics of the project work will be presented on Monday 7 June at 13.00 – 16.00 EEST. The groups will give their first presentation on the challenge of their choice on Friday 11 June at 12.00 – 16.00 EEST. The final proposals for solutions will be presented on Friday 18 June at 12.00 – 16.00 EEST. The learning diary is to be submitted by Monday 21 June at 23:59.
