Individual course

Max amount of FITech students: 10 adult learners

The course gives an overview of data-based decision making in an organisational and network driven context, addressing key organisational functions, stakeholders, resources and transactions.

An overview of the key smart city processes and support systems is given, from the viewpoint of data-driven planning, execution and improvement for knowledge management and decision making. The needs of smart city stakeholders, including city organisation, small and medium-sized companies, public service organisations and community based settings are also brought up.

Course contents

In addition to understanding how various types of organisations utilize data in their internal and external organisational decision making, this course also addresses the scale of decision making at individual level, and the scope, i.e. the extent of decision making at systems level.

Learning outcomes

After the course the students

  • understand what the science of data-driven decision-making and analytics means in the urban context
  • understand how data transforms into information and knowledge through interaction
  • are familiarised with the design process of data-driven services both from systemic and citizen points of view
  • know how to apply data-driven decision making in smart city context.
