Introduction to large language models

Individual course

This is an introductory course to large language models and after completing the course the student will understand the key principles underlying the large language models and can also engineer prompts to improve output quality. No prior knowledge is needed to complete the course.

Course contents

Language models, large language models, prompting and prompt engineering, issues and concerns related to large language models.

Learning outcomes

After the course the students

  • understand the role of data in contemporary artificial intelligence and understand what language models are
  • can identify key milestones that have led to the present large language models, and have a high-level understanding of how large language models work
  • can use techniques for prompting large language models, and understand the basics of prompt engineering
  • know about challenges related to using large language models, including hallucination and potential biases.

Completion methods

Online assignments. Course will be assessed pass/fail.
