New energy technologies
The aim of the course is to give the participants an overview of new (more) sustainable energy technologies and their advantages and disadvantages. Present state and global trends are discussed.
Technologies are solar thermal energy (collectors and concentrators), solar photovoltaics, biomass, fuel cells, wind energy, wave and tidal energy, geothermal energy and osmotic power. The course also treats operation principles, efficiency and practical realisations of the technologies, and illustrates the performance through a set of small numerical examples and assignments.
Learning objectives of the course:
- to get acquainted with new and emerging energy technologies
- to gain basic understanding of their operation principles, efficiencies and limitations
- to get an overview of the present state of energy supply and use in Finland and future trends in the field
The course is organised as classroom teaching in Turku but lectures are available online.
- Lectures Tue and Thu at 12.15–14.00 (online/recordings in Moodle)
