Individual course

The course covers the basic principles and methods of translating speech to text.

Course contents

Both human-led methods and automatic technologies are introduced, including subtitling/captioning, print interpreting, speech recognition, re-speaking.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course, the student will

  • know the basic principles of subtitling.
  • understand differences between human and machine-produced methods and subtitles.
  • have basic knowledge of how to produce subtitles.

Completion methods

Independent assignments and final essay. The course can be completed at your own pace.
