FITech Network University’s ”Vetovoimaista ja innovatiivista matematiikan korkeakouluopetusta yliopistoverkoston yhteistyönä” project addresses nationally recognised challenges, specifically increasing the attractiveness of studying mathematics and raising the level of competence. It supports the national LUMA strategy and the Digivisio 2030 project.
The project deepens the collaboration in mathematics education among Finnish universities and promotes the efficient use of resources. Additionally, it encourages students to pursue studies in engineering and natural sciences, while ensuring smoother transitions within and between higher education institutions. The aim is also to shorten the time required to complete degrees and to develop digital pedagogy in mathematics.
The implementation of the project is divided into the following work packages:
- Work package 1: Overview of the universities’ mathematics education, transitions, and development foundations
- Work package 2: Attractiveness of studying mathematics and sufficient basic skills at the beginning of university studies
- Work package 3: Inspiring online learning materials and co-teaching pilot
- Work package 4: Collaboration in advanced studies
The project involves all FITech’s member universities including Aalto University, University of Eastern Finland, University of Jyväskylä, LUT University, University of Oulu, Tampere University, University of Turku, University of Vaasa and Åbo Akademi University. Also University of Helsinki is participating in the project.
The project is funded by the Ministry of Education and Culture (MEC). The project will end at the end of year 2026.
