Mathematics

Mathematics helps understand the surrounding world, as mathematical thinking has served as a foundation for many types of phenomena. For example, many practical applications of technology and many cornerstones of business activities, such as data analytics, statistical methods, and budgeting and finance management are largely based on mathematical models.

Mathematical skills and mathematical thinking are very useful in a variety of specialist tasks and leading through knowledge. They create a foundation and understanding for the introduction and development of various tools and methods in personal work. Mathematics also develops abstract thinking and problem-solving skills.

In mathematics courses offered by FITech you will learn basic knowledge and skills that will support you in other studies and work. There are courses available on subjects such as engineer mathematics, mathematics needed in computer science, and statistical data-analytics. The Introduction to University Mathematics course is suitable for those who want to study or to review parts of advanced mathematics taught in upper secondary school, or whose mathematics studies from upper secondary school took place a long time ago. Advanced mathematics in upper secondary school offers sufficient preliminary knowledge for beginning courses such as the Basic Course in Analysis and Vectors and Matrices.

Mathematics courses at the University of Tampere are part of the route studies of mathematics. After completing them it is possible to apply to study for a degree at the University of Tampere. Read more about route studies (in Finnish).

Teaching and application period

Below you will find all mathematics courses that FITech offers. Some of the courses are continuously ongoing and some have different application periods. To find out the exact application period, see course details. If the application period is not active, you can subscribe to the course. This way, you will receive an email notification when the application period starts or other course information is changed.
