Internet technology

Internet has evolved into a global networking technology that connects the world. The TCP/IP protocol stack was originally designed as a network of networks, or as the glue between networks of different types. The main purpose of the design is to ensure end-to-end compatibility between user nodes across different networks. Understanding the core technologies defined by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), which is responsible for Internet standardisation, is the basis of all modern digitalisation and especially important for all IT professionals.

Although the scalability of the Internet paradigm has been a success, technological development continues. New challenges include for instance cybersecurity, quality of service, software, cloud services, and scalability.

Studying university courses in Internet technology opens doors to roles in the telecommunications sector, such as equipment manyfacturers and network operators, as well as a wide range of IT positions in various industries and public administration.
